Tooth-Colored Fillings are Esthetic, Strong, and Reliable

Silver fillings are a thing of the past! While sliver (amalgam) fillings served dentistry reliably for decades, we are at a point in time where white-fillings (“composites” or “tooth-colored” fillings) are the way to go. White fillings are great because they allow us to restore teeth (fix cavities) in an esthetic manner, with a minimal removal of tooth structure.

How do White Fillings Works?

Unlike sliver fillings which were held in by the shape of the tooth, white fillings are bonded into the teeth. In fact, for this reason, white fillings are sometimes referred to as “bondings”. When providing a white filling, we remove the decay from the tooth as we normally would. We then treat the tooth with bonding agents, and we place the filling in the tooth. Many patients ask about the “blue light” that they see us use – this light is a special light that’s designed to cure (harden) the white filling in-place, which makes the filing set immediately.

What Are the Risks of White Fillings?

As with any type of dental filling, any time you remove decay from a tooth, there’s always a chance that a tooth will need more treatment. Of course, if we predict that a tooth might need to have a root canal, we would tell you that ahead of time. In the past, the most common post-op concern after having a white filling placed was sensitivity. However, with advances in our bonding composite materials, patients report much less post-operative sensitivity. Still, there is a chance that you may have sensitivity after the placement of a deep white filling – and in these cases the sensitivity will most often decrease over time, with no long-lasting effects.

Real Patients, Real Testimonials

I went in and was immediately put at ease. They were willing to stay late to make sure my exam was through and a tentative plan was put into place. When I returned the following day to see the hygienist, a definitive plan was put into place and the doctor and staff made sure I understood each step and what was needed.

I don't really like to go to the Dentist but the staff and the Dr are awesome!! Very kind, happy and professional!! The Dr is very gentle and communicative; as he tells you what he is going to do in detail and is a warm, caring person.

Folks, if you're looking for a new dental practice...look NO further! My 1st phone call to schedule a consultation was met with a kind and caring person who seemed genuinely concerned with the problems and pain I was experiencing. Though her schedule was full, she managed to fit me in to see the dentist.
