You Should Have a Dental Exam Every 6 Months

The best way to avoid having to go to the dentist… is to go to the dentist. Patients who come for regular dental exams and cleanings have fewer cavities and dental problems than patients who don’t come regularly.

What Happens During an Exam?

During a routine dental exam, we examine your mouth, your gums, and your teeth. We perform an oral cancer screening, and we will take any needed dental x-rays. Patients ask us about dental x-rays and safety (they are safe), and as such we have an entire page about dental x-rays to answer your questions.

Gum Examination
We perform a thorough periodontal examination (a gum exam) in order to evaluate the condition of your gums. Strong, health gums are necessary to help keep the teeth in a stable position, and if the gums are in poor condition, tooth loss can occur. You will sometimes hear about periodontal disease, which is a condition where significant gum inflammation leads to bone loss. Thus, it’s critical to evaluate for and detect periodontal disease so it can be treated prior to it causing problems.

Tooth Examination
During a routine exam, we check your teeth for cavities, and we check your existing restorations (fillings, crowns, etc.) to make sure that they are intact and that they also do not have cavities. Remember, even though a tooth has a crown (and possibly a root canal), the tooth can still get tooth decay.

Treatment Plan
Once we’ve completed our examination, we will create a treatment plan for you for any needed or suggested treatment. We understand that dental care can be expensive, especially for patients without dental insurance, and as such we will present you with and discuss multiple treatment options.

I went in and was immediately put at ease. They were willing to stay late to make sure my exam was through and a tentative plan was put into place. When I returned the following day to see the hygienist, a definitive plan was put into place and the doctor and staff made sure I understood each step and what was needed.

I don't really like to go to the Dentist but the staff and the Dr are awesome!! Very kind, happy and professional!! The Dr is very gentle and communicative; as he tells you what he is going to do in detail and is a warm, caring person.

Folks, if you're looking for a new dental practice...look NO further! My 1st phone call to schedule a consultation was met with a kind and caring person who seemed genuinely concerned with the problems and pain I was experiencing. Though her schedule was full, she managed to fit me in to see the dentist.
